Group Sound Therapy Training

The British Academy of Sound Therapy

Bognor Regis, United Kingdom
Description

This course is perfect for anyone wanting to facilitate sessions that are more focused on a therapeutic process rather than an arts intervention. This course looks at how to give a wide range of active and passive sound and drum therapy sessions. During the course we will be working with Himalayan singing bowls, crystal bowls, gong, drum and therapeutic percussion as well as the 5Rs process to help with deeper self-reflection and mindfulness.

Full Course Details In Depth

The intensive module will run 13th November – 17th November 2019.

Day 1 – Sonic Immersion and Exploration

Bringing the threads through from the ‘Fundamental’ module on the Learning Zone, this experiential and fun day is full of practical activities, sound-bath sessions and exploring how each instrument moves mind, body and emotions in slightly different ways. The application of each instrument therapeutically will also be discussed. This day can also be taken as an introductory workshop (space is limited).

Day 2 – Soundbaths and Relaxation Sessions

We will explore how to give relaxing sessions using the gong, Himalayan and crystal bowls.

Day 3 – Gongbaths and Soundbaths

Today we will cover the therapeutic use of the gong and look at creating different types of gong-bath for different therapeutic effects. We will also go deeper into soundbaths with the addition of the 5Rs re ective technique, enabling people to have a potentially transformative dialogue with the self through their interaction with the sound.

Day 4 – Drum Journeys and Rhythm

Viewing this ancient practice through a 21st century lens, using neuroscience and sound psychology to understand how and why drum journeys can be so effective. We will also explore the dynamic ‘Rhythm of Life’ sessions, reflecting on how rhythm can be used for balance and harmony.

Day 5 – Working with Unhelpful Narrative

How many of us go through life with unhelpful beliefs that hold us back? Our reflective process (known as ‘The 5 Rs’) combined with soundscaping offers a powerful way to question these beliefs and offers an outlet for expression beyond words. As a result the unhelpful story can be reframed into a new and more life-affirming way of being. This method has produced life- changing results and takes sound-work to a new dimension.
